Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of drinking prevention program for vocational high school students and to suggest the effective nursing intervention useful for the prevention of drinking problem for adolescents.
The design of this study was nonequivalent control group pre-post test design.
The total number of subjects of this study were 45, vocational high school male students in G city, among which 22 were assigned for the experimental group and 23 were in the control group.
The drinking prevention program in this study was composed of 6 sessions utilizing self-efficacy theory and expectancy theory based on the social-leaning theory.
The instruments of this study were the scale of drinking refusal self-efficacy and alcohol expectancy.
The data were collected from september 10 to November 16, 2001, and analized by x z -test, wilcoxon rank sums test and fishers exact test
The result of this study were as follows:
1. Hypotheses 1 that "the score of the drinking refusal self-efficacy in the experimental group was higher than that of the control group" was supported (z=2.45, p=.014).
2. Hypotheses 2 that "the score of the alcohol expectancy in the experimental group was lower than that of the control group" was supported (z=-3.05, p=.002).
3. Drinking prevention program had an influence on reducing drinking behavior of the experimental group compared with those of the control group (frequency of drinking 12=24.86, p=.000, amount of drinking

z =12.66, p=.001).
Based on the result, the alcohol prevention program for vocational high school students was effective in promotion of drinking refusal self-efficacy and reduction alcohol expectancy.
For the adolescents who have high curiosity on alcohol to have healthier life, drinking prevention program including concrete informations and skills for alcohol should be systematically carried out according to the development progress, drinking or not, and degree of drinking problems of adolescents.
